* Why is Anker Implant better than other top brand dental implants ?  

Most of the current leading brands of dental implants were developed in the 1980s and 1990s. These companies used the best equipment available at the time to design and manufacture the dental implant. It revolutionised dental treatment forever. It is an achievement of human ingenuity and worth the celebration. Unfortunately the technology has moved on, especially in the past ten years.

Just look at the difference between the new Pope announcement in the years 2005 and 2013. Unlike the modern smart phone, which has a life cycle of about 6 months before the new and better models arrive, the dental implant is a class III medical device; therefore it has to pass increasingly stringent regulations before it can be used in the human body.

Unfortunately, once the dental implant has passed the regulations and testing, it is very difficult for the manufacturer to make any new improvements on the product. If any modifications were made on the dental implant such as the design, manufacturing steps, switching to better materials or even changing the packaging, all or some of the expensive validation tests in their product design dossier would have to be repeated to make sure the implants function the same as the original design before resubmitting the regulation application, otherwise the implants will be invalid for sale in the market.

Therefore, the top brand dental implants today probably still use the same design and are manufactured by 20 years old technology. Even though some of these companies have made the necessary changes and modifications to make their implant last longer and perform better, the cost of the implant would’ve been pushed significantly higher due to excessive repeat testing and regulation requirements.

The Anker Implant product line, on the other hand, was created by the latest technology based on extensive clinician inputs in 2010. The design was aided by modern computer simulation programs for the best implant durability. Even before the Anker implant was put through the in vitro mechanical simulator and in vivo testing, the results were very much predictable. Many innovations were created during the product development such as new fixture design, thread design and unique surface treatment. With the advanced computer simulation, new manufacturing process and equipment aided QC system; the regulation burden was down to the minimum for Anker Implant product development.  After the unique and patented sand blasting (SLA) process, the roughness of the implant surface was significantly increased to amplify the direct contact area between the bone tissue and implant. Unlike the normal dental implant manufacturing process, where the implant just goes through further treatment such as Ca/P coating or standard etching process to clean and remove the residual debris from the implant surface, Anker dental implant will go through the high grade semi-conductor etching process to remove the sharp edges which were created by the sand blasting process. Titanium alloy dental implant after sand blasting; increases its surface roughness to encourage bone-implant direct contact area. However, many sharp edges were created during the process.

 

After the semi-conductor grade etching process, the sharp edges are smoothed out to enhance the long term implant integration and stability.

 

The following diagram shows the direct comparison between Anker SBII implant and Straumann ITI implant in an in vivo study. The implants will stay in vivo for up to 6 months and implants were retrieved on a monthly basis for histometrical analysis to determine the percentage of bone immediately in contact with the titanium surface (BIC%).  

The results show that both Anker implant and Straumann implant performed very well and there is no significant statistical difference.  However, after 3 months and up to 6 months in vivo, the percentage of direct bone contact on the Anker implant surface is consistently higher than that on the Straumann implant. This indicates that Anker implant will be more clinically stable in the long term.

The study shows that Anker's unique surface treatment process works extremely well and is better than the traditional SLA treated top brand dental implant products on the market.
